Overview

Encourage user journeys and boost engagement

The Sticky Section Navigation bar is a fixed banner that displays closely related links, helping to create a microsite feel.

Remaining visible on the page as users scroll, it lets them easily move between a main category page and its subpages.

How to use it

Before you start, gather together the urls and link text, ready to add into each field.

Step 1: Add the URLs

Add the URLs you want to link to in the ‘URL’ text field. Aim for no more than seven, so the bar doesn't become overcrowded.

When linking to an internal page, you can search for your desired page and select it from the dropdown menu. If the page is external, you’ll need to copy and paste the full URL address into the URL text field.

Step 2: Add the link text

The link text appears on the sticky navigation bar. It should be user-centric, so make sure it represents the title of the destination page and is easy (and quick) to understand. Avoid internal references to products or services that users may not be familiar with.

Keep your link text short where possible. As full page names can be long, you can use well-known shortened forms. This can also help accommodate multiple links. For example:

  • Warranty & Indemnity insurance = W&I
  • Title insurance = Title

Step 3: Rearrange the link order

Order the links alphabetically or by popularity. There is one exception, though. The main category page, such as the homepage of a microsite, belongs first (on the far left).

To change the order of the links, simply drag and drop into the desired position.

Do's and don'ts

Do

  • Always place the main category page first

This ensures that users can quickly find their way home and never feel lost.

Don't

  • Don’t overcrowd the navigation bar

Make sure all the links are visible without scrolling (on desktop). You can make the link text shorter, provided it still clearly reflects the page content.
